How to Change the Air Filter on a Renault Megane Scenic

Keeping your Renault Megane Scenic in top shape includes changing the air filter regularly. This component filters the air being directed through the engine's intake, keeping dust and harmful debris from being introduced into the combustion process. Just as with any other filter, once it becomes clogged with debris you need to change it. This is a relatively quick job that requires only a few basic tools to complete.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet and socket set
  • Phillips screwdriver

Removing the Old Filter

  • Lift the the hood and prop it open. Locate the air filter housing on the driver's side, behind the battery under the windshield.

  • Pull away the rubber weather seal from the length of the windshield cowl. Remove the three bolts holding the plastic debris guard with a ratchet and socket. Pull the debris guard away from the windshield cowl.

  • Remove the plastic shield covering the air filter housing by removing the two retaining bolts on both sides of the shield with a ratchet and socket. Pull the shield forward and away from the cowl.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws located on opposite sides of the air filter housing. Pull the housing up to expose the air filter.

Installing the New Filter

  • Remove the old air filter from the housing and replace it with the new filter. Reinsert the air filter housing into the recess and reattach the retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Place the plastic shield over the air filter housing and secure it with the two retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts with a ratchet and socket.

  • Reinstall the debris guard over the windshield cowl and secure it with the three retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts with a ratchet and socket. Reattach the weather seal to the length of the cowl and close the hood.
