As of 2010, Chevrolet offers two pickup trucks: the Chevrolet Colorado, its mid-size truck, and the Chevrolet Silverado, its full-size truck. Although the trucks use different license plate bulbs, the replacement procedure is the same for both vehicles, as is the bulb location. The license plate has two lights. There is one light on either side of the license plate.
Turn off the Chevy truck's engine and engage the emergency brake. Lay a towel down behind the bed, right underneath the license plate. This prevents you from getting dirty. Put on gloves to prevent damaging the replacement bulb with oil from your fingers.
Reach underneath the rear bumper on either side of the license plate mount. The two bulbs are mounted behind on either side of the plate. Grasp the back of the socket with your hand. Twist it counterclockwise to remove it.
Pull the socket downward. Be careful; it's attached to a wire. You should now be able to see the bulb.
Slide the bulb out of the socket. Retrieve your replacement bulb. Gently push it down into the socket. You'll hear a soft snap as it locks into place.
Insert the socket back into its mounting hole behind the rear bumper. Turn it clockwise. Move to other plate bulb if you plan on replacing it, too.
