How to Repair a Volkswagen Cabrio Airbag Light

The best-selling European convertible in its time, the compact Volkswagen Cabrio combines fuel efficiency and handling with the luxury of a fold-down soft top, all in one small package. The Cabrio comes equipped with numerous safety features, including a roll bar, seat belts that automatically tighten and position themselves, and front and side dual airbags. Over time, the airbag light may not work properly and will need to be repaired. Using a VAG service and airbag reset tool will restore the Cabrio's airbag light indicator.

Things You'll Need

  • VAG service and airbag reset tool
  • Switch the ignition of the Cabrio off.

  • Plug the VAG service and airbag reset tool into the Cabrio's diagnostic system, located near the hood release latch. The reset tool is available at most auto parts stores.

  • Depress the "Select" button on the tool until the red and yellow LED lights come on.

  • Switch the ignition on but do not start the Cabrio. The tool will not work if the ignition is off.

  • Push the "Enter" button on the reset tool and wait 10 seconds for the LED lights to turn on.

  • Switch the ignition off.

  • Unplug and remove the VAG service and airbag reset tool from the Cabrio's diagnostic port.
