How to Remove an Inside Door Panel

The door panel is fastened to the car door by plastic fasteners that hold the panel to the door. Depending on the make of the vehicle, there may be additional items to be removed or unscrewed to take the panel away from the door. The easiest method is to locate any screws and wires and attempt to pull the panel away slowly. If there is any resistance, then you can locate what is still holding the panel to the door.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-tip screwdriver
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Open the door to make access to the panel simpler. Feel around the edges of the door panel to inspect for fasteners.

  • Undo any screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The screws will be hidden. Look under armrests, by the door handles and around the corners of the doors.

  • Pry up any electrical consoles and disconnect the wires that are attached to the back of them. This will include power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, and in some vehicles the power seat functions.

  • Gently pull the bottom corner of the door panel away from the door. The door panel is held on by fasteners. The fasteners are located within five inches of one another. Pull the door panel off gently until the whole panel is free from the vehicle.

  • Inspect the back of the panel for any wires connected to it. The courtesy light is connected to the back of the panel and can be disconnected by turning the socket counterclockwise and pulling away from the panel.

  • Lift the panel up and away from the door. Place the panel face down on a flat surface.
