How to Change a PCV Valve in a 3.4 Liter Chevy

The positive crankcase ventilation or PCV valve plays an important role in the emissions system of a pollution-controlled vehicle. If positive pressure builds up inside an engine (the crankcase) it is vented through the PCV valve into the engine intake. This allows any unburned hydrocarbons to be burned instead of being released into the air.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement PCV valve
  • Find the PCV valve, which is installed on the front-right of the engine (while facing the car). It has a black rubber hose running to it.

  • Grip the PCV valve and the hose attached to it and pull straight up to remove the old valve from the engine.

  • Pull the black rubber hose from the PCV valve by pulling it off the valve. Dispose of the old valve.

  • Slip the black rubber tubing onto the new PCV valve and press it back into the engine in the same location and manner it was removed.
