How to Remove the Taillight Lens in a Honda Odyssey

The Odyssey is a minivan that is made by Honda. First introduced in 1993 with a four-cylinder engine, the Odyssey's doors could be swung open like a car. When the Odyssey was redesigned in 1999, it got regular sliding doors like other minivans, a more powerful six-cylinder engine, and rear seats that folded flat into the floor for ease of hauling cargo. The rear taillight lenses on your Odyssey can be easily removed for replacement or to change a burnt-out bulb.

Things You'll Need

  • Philips screwdriver
  • Flat-blade screwdriver
  • Open the rear lift gate of your van to access the taillight screws.

  • Remove the plastic screw covers from the taillight lens by prying them open with the edge of a flat-blade screwdriver.

  • Remove the taillight holding screws with a Philips screwdriver turned in a counterclockwise direction. Place the screws aside.

  • Grasp the taillight lens assembly and pull it straight away from the rear of the vehicle until the stud in the back of the lens releases from the rubber grommet in the van’s body.

  • Remove the taillight bulb socket from the rear of the lens by rotating it in a counterclockwise direction and pulling it straight from the lens housing. Remove the back-up light bulb socket and turn-signal socket from the rear of the lens in the same manner.
