How to Replace a Cabin Filter on a 2005 Nissan Altima

All 2005 Nissan Altimas, with the exception of the 2.5 Base model, come equipped with a cabin air-filter (Nissan refers to this filter as an in-cabin micro-filter). This cabin filter captures particulates before they enter your cabin through your air vents, allowing you to breathe cleaner air. Nissan recommends replacing this filter once every 12 months or every 15,000 miles, whichever comes first. Although Nissan recommends visiting your dealer for maintenance, you can replace the filter yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement micro-filter
  • Open the glove box door. Remove the contents of the compartment, and then close the glove box door.

  • Look underneath the glove box to find the two hinge pins. Remove these pins with a flat-head screwdriver (pry them off). Set them aside.

  • Open the glove box door again. Lower the compartment slowly. Allow it to hang by its support cord (it's not necessary to completely take out the glove box).

  • Look behind the glove box to find the filter compartment. Push together the two hook tabs on the bottom of the filter compartment; pull the compartment door away.

  • Slide the old filter out with your hands. Insert the new filter into the compartment, with the arrow facing up, and the "Up" symbol facing the Altima's rear.

  • Re-attach the filter compartment door (it snaps back on). Raise the glove box compartment back in place; shut the door. Re-insert the glove box hinge pins beneath the glove box.
