Chevrolet produced three trim levels for their pickup line in 1967. The Cheyenne was the work truck package, the Scottsdale was the middle trim level. The Silverado was made as the high-end model of the truck. The Scottsdale used a fuel filter inside the carburetor until 1988, when the throttle-body fuel injector became standard on the Chevrolet truck. The filter changed over to an in-line filter.
Open the hood to access the fuse panel. Locate the fuse in the panel for the fuel pump. Pull the fuse by hand.
Start the truck and allow it to run until it stalls. This will depressurize the fuel system.
Locate the fuel filter under the truck. Follow the fuel line from the fuel tank. The fuel filter is a canister that is installed in the fuel lines.
Unbolt the inlet and outlet lines by unscrewing the lines with a line wrench. A second line wrench will be required to keep the filter from turning while removing the line.
Unbolt the filter from the mounting bracket with a socket wrench. Pull the filter away from the truck.
Bolt the new filter to the frame rail with a socket wrench. Ensure the bracket is tight.
Screw the fuel lines onto the filter with a line wrench. Use a second line wrench to hold the nut on the filter to keep it still.
Insert the fuse back into the fuse panel. Close the fuse panel cover over the panel assembly.
Start the truck and allow it to idle for five minutes. Observe the filter for any leaks while the truck is idling.
Open the hood to access the engine compartment. Unscrew the air cleaner by loosening the wing nut and pulling it away from the air cleaner. Slide the cover off the cleaner.
Pull the air cleaner off the top of the engine. Pull the vacuum line off the side of the air cleaner by hand.
Unscrew the fuel line at the front of the carburetor with a line wrench. Pull the fuel line away from the carburetor.
Pull the filter away from the inlet line. The filter will be sitting in the fuel inlet port.
Slide the new filter in the fuel inlet port. Place the filter in the inlet port the same way the old one was positioned.
Tighten the fuel line onto the carburetor with a line wrench. Ensure the line is tight.
Place the air cleaner over the carburetor. Push the vacuum lines onto the sides of the cleaner.
Tighten the cover over the air cleaner with the wing nut by hand.
