Types of Purolator Oil Filters for a Honda Civic

Purolator is a trusted name in air and oil filters. Manufacturing filters for quite a number of years, Purolator has refined the art into a science. The company has researched the requirements of what filters need to do and has developed filters for each specific application. For a Honda Civic, Purolator has filters available that will fit your particular year and model.

Purolator Classic

  • The Purolator Classic is the company's core oil filter. Purolator claims an efficiency rating of 97.5 percent. This means that when unfiltered oil is introduced, it will filter out 97.5 percent of all particulates. It has an internal anti-drainback valve, meaning the oil will be retained in the filter after the engine is stopped. This help eliminate a dry engine during startup, which leads to engine wear. This filter is recommended for cars that are driven less than 15,000 miles per year and for highway driving. For more than 15,000 miles per year, or for stop-and-go driving, the PureOne filter is recommended.

PureOne Filter

  • PureOne is a heavy-duty version of the Purolator Classic. Its efficiency rating is 99.9 percent, or it filters out 99.9 percent of all particulates. Purolator claims even microscopic particles are trapped. It has all the features of the Purolator Classic, but it also has additional features as well. First, it has a PTFE treated gasket, to provide better sealing to the base of the engine. PTFE is a Teflon-based chemical and is used for its antifriction abilities and resistance to high temperatures.

Honda Civic Applications

  • As a matter of public convenience, Purolator offers an application guide. For example, for a 2010 Honda Civic, filter number L14610 is recommended for the Classic, with PL14610 being the PureOne version of the filter. For your exact year of Honda Civic, refer to the application guide, since filter numbers may change from year to year. In the guide, air, breather and fuel filters are also specified.
