When we measure our weight distribution, we need to make absolutely sure the scales are level. The new Laser Leveling System for scale pads by Intercomp Race Systems makes leveling quick and easy. It is simple to setup and does the job of leveling in a snap. It comes with a laser level and three targets. When used with Intercomp's scale levelers, you can level all four scales as well as each scale pad individually.

I first saw this system in use at a local race shop where a team was preparing a Daytona Prototype car for the 2008 Rolex 24 Hour race. The crewmember set up the scale pads and leveled them in less than 15 minutes, and the four pads were on a perfectly level plane. This was one case where I approached the manufacturer to do this Quick Tech instead of the other way around.

The level can also be used to measure from an offset plane to the car's pickup points and ball joints when measuring for the roll-center location. Frame heights and trailing arm measurements can also be made using the level to quickly and accurately set up the suspension.

An added bonus could be that you could loan the system to your local track officials to level their scales so that the readings agree with the ones you made back at your shop. Very few tracks bother to level their scales so we can never rely on their weight distribution readings. Besides, when they see how easy this system is, they just might go buy one of their own.
