Ultralights: Smaller Trailers for Smaller Tow Vehicles

Livin' Lite designs and builds affordable, lightweight, towable RVs and truck campers. It offers a complete lineup of towable RVs, sport/utility RVs, VRVs (Versatile Recreational Vehicles), and soft- and solid-wall truck campers. The company's state-of-the-art truck campers pair nicely with quarter- and half-ton pickups. There are other companies, such as Coleman, Scamp, and Aspen, who also manufacture small towables, but Livin' Lite is one of the few that specializes in this size towable. The MSRPs for Livin' Lite units begin under $4000 and go up to $19,000. Dry weights for a camping trailer start at 600 pounds, and the top dry weight on the travel trailer doesn't exceed 2999 pounds. In most cases, you don't need a large and powerful tow vehicle. Construction Livin' Lite uses no steel in its trailers -- only aluminum and composite materials. Even the chassis on the company's largest travel trailers and VRVs feature welded aluminum structural members. All towable products come equipped with a Dexter independent torsion-bar suspension. An important benefit of using aluminum is that, over time, the chassis remains unaffected by the harsh punishments undeveloped roads can dish out. The interior floor and ceiling panels, structural members in the walls and roof, all exterior surface skin, and interior cabinets are fashioned from aluminum. Composite material is used for countertop and tabletop surfaces and for the windows.   |   Solid Wall Camping Trailer White The towables that incorporate fabric use rugged material like that found on tents. Laminated solid foam-core insulation in the walls and ceiling protect the interior from outside temperatures. The towables and truck campers use the same building materials, and the units come with a three-year structural warranty. A cool difference between Livin' Lite towables and others on the market is that you can choose from a variety of metallic exterior colors to match your tow vehicle.   |   Quicksilver Camping Trailers Behind A Mazda

A folding camping trailer is a towable RV with an exterior height that, when folded for travel, usually is lower than the height of the tow vehicle. Once you reach your destination, just pop up the roof, and in minutes the interior becomes a usable habitat. Camping trailers can incorporate both solid and fabric material for the walls. Livin' Lite's Quicksilver 6.0 comes outfitted with a dinette that can be converted into sleeping quarters. The 6.1 features a kitchen base in place of the dinette. Both feature a foldout bed base (60 x 78 inches) and can sleep four. Livin' Lite Truck Camper
Soft- and solid-wall units are available. Quicksilver Truck Campers (soft top/pop-up top) fold flat for travel, which means that the view out the rear window of the pickup is unimpeded. When folded down for travel, the aluminum top creates a platform where cargo can be stowed and carted. When the camper is popped open, two sleeping platforms (36 x 76 inches each) fold out, and the dinette becomes available for service. The dinette can also be folded flat to create another sleeping quarter. Model TC1 is designed for full-size pickup trucks, and has a dry weight of 430 pounds. The TC2 is designed for smaller pickups, and yields a dry weight of 320 pounds. Both models sleep four. Pricing starts at $4000.   |   Versatile RV Towable Yellow Livin' Lite calls the solid-wall unit the CampLite Truck Camper. It, too, is available for smaller and full-size trucks. The smaller CampLite has a dry weight of 950 pounds and features 74 inches of headroom, a cab-over queen-size bed, and a dinette that converts into sleeping quarters. Two floor plans are available. Depending on the floor plan, the CampLite can be equipped with a galley, wet bath, and storage, and can include a refrigerator, A/C, and a furnace. The full-size CampLite Truck Camper has a dry weight of 1600 pounds and features a full wet bath and loads of interior storage. A popular option on this model is an LP package with refrigerator, water heater, and furnace. Base MSRP for the CampLite Truck Camper begins at $10,000 and ranges up to $14,000.   |   Versatile RV Towable Front Livin' Lite notes that its truck campers will fit most trucks, but not all. The company is in the process of redesigning the truck camper boxes to accommodate the wide variations found in the new truck body styles.
