1978 Terry Travel Trailer - Project Terry Part 3

In our part of the country, we call roofing and siding a house "getting it into the weather." Since weight and roadworthiness are not considerations in house construction, this aspect of RV renovation is quite different. Although installing aluminum siding on a travel trailer is not rocket surgery, the trick is in the transitions and openings, which must be carefully planned, or in our case, cleverly covered. The same goes for the roof. After installing sheeting, the roof is as simple as applying glue and rolling the material over the glue -- except, of course, the transitions at the front, back, and sides. Following Dicor's recommendation, we lapped the front siding onto the roofing material and wrapped the roofing material over the rear siding. It's all about airflow when the travel trailer is going down the road at freeway speeds. Most of this process of getting Project Terry "into the weather" went pretty well. However, we did make some mistakes, including getting a little too happy with the staple gun at the corners, then later looking for a way to cover them. This resulted in some very cool-looking custom corners made of polished aluminum, which matches the trim details on the door and windows. Here are some photos of what we've been up to on the exterior of our 1978 renovation project: 1978 Terry Travel Trailer Project Part 3 2   |   1: We had our Project Terry orders shipped to Garage 808, which is also our fabrication shop. We ordered most of the products directly from the Coast Distribution catalog.
