Auto Insurance Claims: Stolen car recovered after paymnet., parking tickets, stolen car

Question
Hi,
My car was stolen in march, I filed a claim, waited 30 days and my insurance co. sent me a check. I sent them the tile, cashed the check etc. got a call yesterday that the car was found intact collecting parking tickets. Am I correct in assuming that the car is now property of the insurance company? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Chris,

Yes. The car is now the property of the insurance company. However, you will want to be sure that you have a copy of the police report of the theft as well as any documents regarding the claim with your insurance company. While your car was collecting parking tickets it was still registered to you. So the parking tickets will be issued to you. You will need to contact the city to find out what info you need to provide them so that the tickets are dropped. If you do not do this and the tickets are not paid it may result in the suspension of your drivers license or the issuance of a warrant for your arrest.

I hope this helps
