Auto Insurance Claims: Rental reimbursement to person, not rental agency, rental car company, rental reimbursement

Question
I was recently involved in a car accident and the other driver's insurance company has accepted fault.  They have issued a check in my name to cover the damages on the estimate they did (because there is no lien on my car). My care is driveable so I haven't lost out on having a car while the claim was being handled.. However, I don't want to use a rental car company while my car in the shop because I've had bad experiences in the past (being charged for damages that were already on the rental car when I picked it up, rental car was a gas guzzler, inconvenient to drop off and pick up due to my work schedule, etc.).. Anyway, if I borrow a friend's car will the insurance company (Traveler's) issue a check to my friend (or me)directly instead of a rental car company?

Answer
Hi Shell,

Unless you actually rent a car from a real rental car company, you will not be paid for a rental. However you will be entitled to a payment for "Loss of Use". This is usually at a lower rate than a rental car, usually about $15.00 per day. You should ask the insurance comapny to pay you for loss of use. Then you can pay your friend out of that amount.

I hope this helps
