Auto Insurance Claims: stolen car Keys, car keys, stolen car

Question
My car Keys were stolen from my roommate's car while it was parked down the street from
my house. I filed a police report but if the person who stole my keys lives in the neighborhood then they now know which car they have the keys to. Do I need to tell my insurance company and will I be covered if my car is stolen.

I strongly recommend that you take the car to the dealership or a locksmith and have the doors and ignition re-keyed.
You should also notify your insurance company of the theft of the keys, I'm sure that their advise will be the same as mine.
It's very possible that the insurance will cover the re-keying of your car under the comprehensive portion of the policy.  Be sure to inquire when you make the notification.
It is possible that there are conditions spelled out in your policy that would allow them to deny coverage in the event of theft.  Many states allow some weird conditions to be placed in the legal wording of your policy.
