Auto body repair & detailing: replace quarter panel, butt joints, goodmark

Question
I have a 1969 roadrunner. The quarters from Goodmark are good quality but since they are not original they do not include the sail panel. the top of the replacement quarter comes up and over the top edge about a 1/4 inch. Should I butt weld the quarter or overlap the edge. It's a long panel and I have the tools to do either way. What do you feel is the best approach. Thanks jim

Answer
do a butt joint thats how we do them in al sail panels we replace 1/4s at the sails it is easyer.. If you do a lap you will have a place for rust to build up in it. Been their did that.Butt joints are real clean and easy to finish off. remember to use weld threw primer on all surfaces before you weld it up. to save yourself trouble in furture.. good luck hope this helps
