Car Stereos: Stereo color codes 2009 dodge journey, 2009 dodge journey, orange stripe

Question
2009 Dodge journey... It is the infinity/sirius 6 disc changer premium package. 10" sub woofer included. I am installing more speakers BUT I cant seem to find ANYONE who knows the wiring color codes!?! They are not listed on the wires, nor are they posted on the head unit... I've been told I need to donate $$$ for the answers and the dealership needs me to wait for some odd reason! I just need to know the usuals.... Front and rear positive and negative, left and right... Remote, any and all of the functions if you could.... Please Help or direct me to someone who can. This website has ALWAYS helped me out. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Chris,

The issue as you are no doubt aware is that the Dodge Journey is a brand new vehicle and so nobody has had a chance to inde the colours, etc, yet.

I haven't even seen one on the road yet, much less installed a stereo in it.

All you can go with for now are the standard dodge colouring, which may or may not be correct.  You'll want to test these wires with a multimeter to ensure they're correct before messing with them.

The standard Dodge colours for speaker wires are:

Front left:

brown w/red stripe (-)
dark green (+)

front right:

blue w/red stripe (-)
purple (+)

rear left:

brown w/yellow stripe (-)
brown w/blue stripe (+)

rear right:

blue w/white stripe (-)
blue w/orange stripe (+)

To test them, strip a little bit of insulation off the wires, set a multimeter to impedance, and test the impedance across each set of wires.  You should get 4 ohms.  If you do, you've found a speaker.

Also, make sure you test the connections AFTER the amp, as testing them directly off the back of the factory stereo is likely not to work since I'd imagine with the higher end system, all of the speakers are amplified by an external amp.

Good luck,
Justin
