BMW Repair: Timing Light :gives same reading on other cylinders as at cylinder #1--is this normal?, bmw questions, strobe light

Question
I can't find any one to answer my general question. If you care to try...I will give you a 10 rating in any case.

The Manual says to check my Timing at cylinder #1 [I use a Strobe Light & Induction Clip].

But,I also get the same reading on cylinders #2 & 4 as at cylinder #1--is this normal?

I have an  ‘89 Toyota Corolla ;4 cyl ;1.6 liter ;carbureted ;DOHC;Manual Trans.

Answer
First off I answer BMW questions mostly although in my shop I work on anything. The answer to your question is a question from me.Why would you check the other cylinders?#1 is the first one to your left as you look at the motor. You may by chance be able to see your timing mark with the other cylinders but the timing will be incorrect
