Audio Systems: Amplifier wattage question, channel amp, bridge mode

I have a 4 channel 1600w amplifier but i only have 2 subs. I was wondering if I needed to hook subs into all of the channels to get the full 1200 watts out or if the subs that i have in only 2 of the 4 subs is getting the full power. so my main question is: do you need to connect to all channels for maximum output?

  wire the subs in bridge mode if they are able to handle the ohms and watt rating from the amp .. this is how i wire all of my subs i buy a 4 channel amp and wire in bridge you get alot more power out of them than a normal 2 channel of equal watts .. here is my page that might help you with some wiring www.geocities.com/evilparadise02/stereo.html .. if you need anything else let me know
