Chrysler Repair: 1996 plymouth ralleye mini van, partssource, autozone

Question
Hi,
I am driving my mini van, the rpms are heading up to the 4 and 5 area, it doesnt seem to be shifting into a higher gear. The check engine light is on, temp is ok, tranny fluid is fine, oil etc. Could this be a vacuumm line?
Please help, I do not want to blow it up

Answer
Have the trouble codes extracted for the "check engine light". In the U.S., an autozone store will do it free. In Canada, a partssource will do the same. These transmissions have a problem with the shift computers, mounted under the hood, just below the pass. side windshield. For these years, this is the most common transmission complaint. It starts out in low fine, then shifts into second at 5-6000 rpm, at 60 to 80 KPH ( 40-50 mph) and the high gear isn't reached until over 100. Keep the speeds low, get the codes, which I suspect will indicate the shift computer and pick one up at your local junkyard. (oops, I mean your local automotive recycling facility.)
