Chrysler Repair: 2001 300m fuel smell, descriptive phrase, gross leak

Question
After getting a fuel smell in the cabin I got code P0445. (gross leak/No flow.  when I traced the fuel lines under the car I noticed the "center line" of 3 at the back of the engine was wet with fuel where the hard line turns black and curves around and goes into a fitting. There are no signs of even a drip, just damp. Is that a return line going back to the tank or supply?? I cant even get my hand in there to remove it.  Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanx

Answer
Hi D.
The code number is probably P0455 as that is the one with that descriptive phrase. It is pointing toward the evaporative fuel collection system as having the leak. The hoses of the system are shown schematically on the label pasted to the underside of the hood so that would be one possible place to ID the hose in question. Alternatively, may I suggest that you go to a dealer parts counter and ask to look at the parts computer for you carr for the ORVR system (onboard refueling vapor recovery system) which will show you the realistic routing of the hoses. Ideally you will find that it is simply a loose fitting that needs to be tightened.
