Land Rover Repair: p38 wont crank, door latch, starter relay

Question
Hi John, I have a 2002 p38 it's been sitting for a few weeks. I forgot to tell you that the keyfob & the car battery went dead. I put a new car battery in and the car won't crank. All the dash lights come on, everything seems OK but when I go to crank it, I just hear the relay click once. Similar to when the car dose that superlock and you have to reset the alarm with the key in the door latch. I tried that & the car still won't crank. Can the keyfob battery have anything to do with this?

Answer
Put the key in the drive door, turn to unlock while pushing unlock on the remote.  Do the same turning to lock and pushing lock.  Unlock with remote and try to start.  That should clear an alarm lockout.  If it still fails to start, you will need to trace the wiring to see if the starter relay has quit, or if you have a security problem
