Land Rover Repair: 2004 Land Rover Discovery II Stalls, land rover discovery, 2004 land rover discovery

Question
I own a 2004 Land Rover Discovery II.  The other day I ran out of gas and obviously the car shut down.  I pushed it about a 100 feet and fueled it back up.

The next day while idling in drive at a stop light, the car just died.  The tank was full.  The dashboard flashed and then the car simply died.  The idle did not lower, it was constant at about 600 and then just stalled.  When attempting to start it back up, the lights would come on, but the engine wouldn't turn over.  After waiting about a minute, I tried again, and it started right up.  No check engine or other lights came on.  This occurred again as I was driving it home at another stop light.

The following day the car started right up and I took it to an independent mechanic who ran it for two hours in park and it didn't stall out.  He was unable to find anything that stood out to him, with the exception of the oil being extremely low (about a half cup), though the oil indicator had not gone off.

I had an oil change done and then while driving that very night, the same thing occurred.  While waiting for traffic, idling in drive, the car died.  No check engine lights have come on.  I let it idle outside my place in park for a half hour and it did not stall.  So it might just stall when idling in drive.

Sorry for the long narrative, but any input would be appreciated.

Answer
The most common cause of no code stalling is a failing crank sensor.  Most other problems will put the check engine light on.  If the car is indeed free of fault codes that's where I would start.

I know you at thinking there must be a connection to running out of gas but I suspect there is not.  When fuel pumps fail, they generally fail and stay broken
