Land Rover Repair: 2000 Discovery II, front windows and transmission, land rover discovery, land rover discovery ii

Question
I have a 2000 Land Rover Discovery II that the front driver and front passenger windows have stopped working. The rear windows and the sunroofs work great. What could be the problem and is there anything I can do just to raise the driver window. I also have a question about the transmission. I had a new used transmission installed with less than 30 thousand miles on it and the mechanic said I had to take the vehicle to the dealer so that they could recalibrate the computer to recognize the new transmission. Have you ever heard of this. The transmission will not work in "D", but if you start in "1" and work your way up the gears to "D" it works great. It also shifts smoothly. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
On the first question . . . I'd start by checking the fuses and swapping the window switches.  Beyond that you have to get the wiring books out.

On the second question . . . I am sorry to say the mechanic is wrong.  The behavior you describe is indicative of a faulty transmission. What your mechanic refers to is called resetting of adaptations, which has no effect on not starting in drive as you say.  I'd get it swapped while it's still under warranty..

Good luck with your repairs!
