Land Rover Repair: 02 Rangie overheating, engine coolant, engine temperatures

Question
02 rangerover did not start overheating until i change my thermostat how can i fix this

Answer
Hi Tommie,

careful with this overheating engine. Don't drive it very far in the red zone...you can permanently damage the engine if you do.  The cylinder sleeve(s) can drop due to extreme engine temperatures that melt the welds holding the sleeves in place.  Even a 'thumbnail' size movement is enough to ruin the engine.

SO...did you install the thermostat properly?  Could it be defective?  Pressure test the radiator to make sure the problem was only masked by the faulty thermostat you replaced.  There could be deposits in the rad that reduce the coolant flow to the engine.

Flush the engine coolant with the best product available in your area.  Replace coolant with new product as well.

Best of luck,
