Land Rover Repair: Series 2a fuel pump, series 2a, stcloudstate

Question
Hey John,

I have a 1966 series 2a 88in.(2.25 petrol) and It does not start unless fuel is put right into the carb. I think that this is because of a bad fuel pump(Is this right)? Also how easy is it to put in and what do I need to do to put it in? and what do I need to watch out for when putting it in?

Thanks,
Ryan

Answer
Hi Ryan,

sounds alot like poor line pressure OR a fouled fuel filter.  Could be a fuel pump but you should do some tests before you go out and buy a pump.  Can you do a pressure reading?

Never done a fuel pump in a '66 but I know where you can go to talke to other owners who did...

go to www.discoweb.org and visit the bulletin board section.  Within this section listing is your series technical discussion area.  Either search for a previous owners input on fuel pump replacement OR post your question there.

I've replace the pump on my '95 but have never worked on a '66 series.  I would not want to steer you wrong. :(

BTW:  Discoweb.org is an excellent resource for you.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
