Question -
i have a 01 XVS650AN,i have a couple of questions. What parts are interchangeable between the 650 & 1100? Is the stroke the same on these engines because I would like to increase HP by swapping jugs? If I remove the baffles from the stock exhaust would the drop in back pressure cause problems? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi Matt,

I'll leave the SV tech to the SV experts:

Visit this website and research your questions there. A very good resource.

Any changes to the intake, carburation, exhaust, and some engine modifications will have an effect on the air-fuel mixtures.

Respectfully,
Mark Shively

Mr. Shively,
My apologies for not being very clear. I have a 2001 Yamaha XVS650AN Classic. What I mean by "drop in back pressure cause problems" is would this render the bike inop. or just cause some "tuning" to be done? Also your link as you may be aware by now is not exactly what I have. Just some minor diff. but thank you for your quick & knowledgeable link. Is there a link as good for my bike? Thanks again & my apologies for the confusion. Matt Lipham

Answer
Matt,

No problem, my error. I wasn't reading the text.

Q:  "...What I mean by "drop in back pressure cause problems" is would this render the bike inop. or just cause some "tuning" to be done?"

A:  Some tuning will be required. Somoe riders report not noticing any lack of performance and do not tune at all.

I don't have the values for stroke comparisons. I think you'll find what you ask at the following link:

Send me your email addy. I'll return some tech files.
