Nissan Repair: pathfinder - sparkplugs, sparkplugs, tight spot

Question
can you describe to me how the number 6 sparkplug at the back of the engine on a 1993 pathfinder ( V-6 / 4x4 ) is situated? it is a very tight spot between the firewall and the engine block and I cannot get my hand in there properly to pull the plug wire off and was wondering if it went in on an angle perhaps....it doesnt look like straight down access.

Answer
Hi Peter -

Yeah, that is a tough one. It is at an angle towards the rear of the car I think. Same angle as the plug in front (#5) so use that as a guide. It helps a great deal to twist the boot until it spins easily. This will free the boot from the plug and it should come out easier.

I have made a tool, take a 7/16" open end wrench, heat it up and bend it 90 degrees right at the flange. The open end fits perfectly between the boot and cylinder head. Simply pry it up and the boot comes off very easily. There might be times where there is no clearance to do this, but it sure saved me a lot of time and frustration in many instances.

Hope this helps -
