Nissan Repair: 05 pathfinder brakes, caliper, different story

Question
Hello,
I have a 2005 pathfinder.  When applying the brakes the front of the car would shake. I attributed this to a warped rotor. Installed new pads and rotors. Driver side when on without a hitch. Passenger side is a different story. Everything went on fine except when I tightened the sliding pin bolt it locked the wheel up. I couldn't turn it at all. Pistons were definitely pushed in all the way. Loosened bolt and bit spun fine. To get it going I had to reinstall one of the old pads but it's still dragging a bit. Do the sliding pins go bad or do you think this is caliper problem? Again, everything is fine until the sliding pin bolt gets tightened. Thanks for your input, Vince

Answer
HI Vince -

I would say replace the caliper. You would not want it to lock up while driving. It is definitely binding on the bolt.

Best thing is to ensure that the bolt is not bent, replace the caliper (don't forget to grease the bolt, as the caliper slides along it when you apply the brakes).

Hope this helps -
aloha
