Nissan Repair: Pathfinder stuck in park, tea, brake lights

97 Pathfinder, auto V6. I spilled some ice tea down into the shifter
assembly. Now it's stuck in park. Starts OK , brake lights work. With
a lot of tugging I can sometimes free it up and everything is fine
but as soon as it goes back into park it's stuck there. Any ideas?

The shift interlock safety is shorted out.  You will have to take the shifter cover off and access the switch and clean and dry it out.  You might get lucky and not have to replace it.  It is a pretty easy fix just taking the console out and getting to the switch.
