Saab Repair: 900s 2.3l Conv - Brakes Hard When Cold, power brake booster, brake booster

Question
Jim
When I start the car from cold the brakes are incredibly hard to press and very ineffective. After a few corners or repeated pumping of the brakes they seem to come good again. The brakes in general do not seem as good as I think they should be (I have not had the car that long to know how good they should be but with disks all round I would expect better).
Any advice would be very much appreciated, thank you

Answer
Sounds like a bad power brake booster. With the car not running pump the brakes 4-5 times. the pedal should be hard. Start the engine, with your foot on the brake, the pedal should go down 2 inches or so, once the booster gets vacuum. If the pedal does not go down at all, or only very little then perhaps the booster is bad.
