Steering Column Repair: busted column still wont start, chevy cavalier, tilt wheel

Question
Hi i have a 2003 chevy cavalier tilt wheel well i ended up wrecking my car which resulted my key getting stuck in the ignition well my ex forced the key out which broke my ignition so u didnt need a key to start the car anymore well lasted a week. The steering column ended up locking and my friend had the car n he busted the whole column now and my car still wont start. I had an alarm installed from chevy after i had bought the car. My car started acting funny after the wreck the lights on the dash would flicker and dim and only one time the battery light came on but no more. Its not my alternator or battery cause car started fine everytime before the busted column. Now after the fact busted column my car is making a wierd clicking sound and the alarm indicator light blinks off and on it acts like it starts but as soon as it does it dies. Can u please tell me how to fix this n the cheapest way to do so im a mother of 3 n funds are tight i would really appreciate it very much thanks have a great weekend!

Answer
Hi Jessica:

Sorry about your car.
The quickest and cheapest repair for your dilemma would be to replace it with a complete used column and eliminate the dealer installed theft system.  If I'm not mistaken, your car already has a factory antitheft system built into the steering column which may be why you are experiencing problems now.  Once you install another column the antitheft system will need to be reprogrammed.
We offer those reprogramming instructions on our website for a nominal fee and you don't need any special tools to accomplish it.
