Steering Column Repair: 88 jeep cherokee ignition switch install, jeep cherokee, tilt column

I removed the ignition switch on my 88 jeep cherokee and now am trying to install new. Nothing seems to be lining up with original location. The rod seems to be too long, and cant find the correct location to mount the rod.

Hi Richard:
Are you talking about the electrical part mounted under the dash on the tube of the column, or the lock cylinder in the upper lock cover?  Is this a tilt or non-tilt column?
Once I know these answers, I may be able to help you more.
