Steering Column Repair: Can the broken steering cause these problems?, tilt column, tilt steering

Question
QUESTION: Ok where to start.First off noticed tilt steering is loose.looks like the bearing is broken or loose.About a week later all of the dash gauges stoped working. Then we were out one day and when we got back in to start it the battery was dead.We figured it was the alternator, had it tested and they said it was fine.We have checked fusable links all the connection to the alternator. They are all running 12 volts.Checked fuses and some where broken but every time we change them they pop as soon as we put them in.Also checked ground wires. Can you tell what else to try..PLEASE!!87x

Thank you so much for answering.

Answer
Thank you
Regarding the loose column...we have recently uploaded some videos on our company website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the loose tilt column you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions. Although the videos are for a Chevrolet truck, the column is very similar to yours.

I hope these videos help you.  If not, please contact me again for more information.
Lastly, if you need parts to repair this column simply email us on our "Contact Us / Order Parts" page and we will get back in touch with you personally.  We stock just about everything you would need to repair your car properly.

Regarding the electrical problem...it may be a bad battery (not holding a charge, or shorted internally), or it may be a dead short elsewhere in the truck.  I don't believe it's related tot he column.  That's going to be pretty difficult to diagnose over the web.  You are on the right track though suspecting the alternator first.  I would next try to determine which circuits are popping the fuses and one by one, disconnect the appropriate accessories that coincide with that fuse..dome lights, cigarette lighters, brake lights, etc

Good luck

Doug
