Steering Column Repair: Steering column, wheel moves, chevrolet truck

I own an oldsmobile 1988 delta 88 royale. My steering wheel moves about 3-4 inches. Could that possibly be that my steering column needs tightened or could it be something else?

It sounds like the tilt mechanism is loose (as you mentioned).  We have recently uploaded some videos on our website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the parts you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions. Although the videos are for a Chevrolet truck, the column is very similar to yours.
