Steering Column Repair: dimmer switch actuator rod cover housing?, gmc vandura, windshield wiper

Question
Hi Douglas, I have a 1983 GMC vandura 6.2L diesel 3/4 ton and I am working on replacing the dimmer switch or whatever the mechanism that is directly connected to the windshield wiper lever.
When I took the dimmer switch actuator rod cover housing off a black plastic part came out of the housing and for the life of me I did not see how it was installed and am not able to find the right position for its reinstallation.
This whole experience has been a huge learning curve for me and I would greatly appreciate your time and expertise.
I can send you images if that would help in your answer to my question.
Thank you very much.
Best, -C

Answer
Hi Clayton:
It sounds like you are talking about the dimmer actuator.
We have recently uploaded some videos on our website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the parts you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions. Although the video is for a Chevrolet truck, the column is very similar to yours.

Good luck
