Subaru Repair: 93 Subaru Impreza, crankshaft pulley, crank pulley

Question
I have a 93 Subaru Impreza 1.8L and  I just changed the timing belt and idler gears. I didn't remove the crankshaft pulley so don't know if the timing marks they put on there are wrong. I put everything back together but car turns over like it wants to start but will never start. Could the timing prevent it from completely starting or would it be another problem. Also can you tell me how to set the timing on the car if it is out.

Answer
Gene,

The ignition timing is not adjustable, there is no mechanical timing mark on the Crank shaft pulley only a reference for checking advance.

The crank pulley has to come off to put a timing belt on a Subaru unless you are running with out timing covers, I can only advise you to start over, do it right and take off the Pulley so you can do it right, repair or replace the broken timing covers.

The marks you need are on the Sprockets.
