Towing Issues: theft of items from vehicle while in towyard, hemet california, dishonest employee

Question
My truck was impounded for no insurance after an accident in Hemet California for the mandatory 30 day hold. We returned to pick up our vehicle after the 30 days are up and pay the $1900.00 fee only to have the tow company tell us our $7500.00 stereo system was stolen two days after it was in their yard. Now we have the truck back but who is responsible for the missing equipment? Us or the tow company?

Answer
Well, I am not going to say that it could of been the towing company who had a "unfaithful or dishonest" employee, or it could of been a normal issue with "someone who just was out to steal" who hopped the fence and stole it...

Now, I am assuming that the tow company did everything possible to "protect" your vehicle and property by securing it (locking it) and having it behind a fence in the storage yard.

Is there any other damage, such as broke windows, pryed out locks or things like that?

There is a saying, "a lock only keeps an honest person honest"

Now I would check with the tow company and see what they say, but I have to say that a $7500.00 stereo system (heck that is more expensive than most cars on the road,) would be covered under insurance.  Now I am not sure if the tow companies insurance company will cover the loss or it would be covered under your insurance...

I would say the best thing is to check out each one and see what they each say...

Sorry for not having the answer for you, but it is hard to answer this one about responsibility due to theft. Courts and or insurance companies are the ones who determine the responsibility.
