Towing Issues: help!, better business bureau, tow company

Question
Ok, so my car broke down, got towed found out its $250 but I still needed it towed to my mechanic and the guy said it would be an additional $75 + $5 gas surcharge and $1 per mile plus 20% off cuz they already ripped me off. I agreed and then got the bill for $116.60. I called they claim they said $5 per mile and that total is w/discount. This was a verbal agreement and I don't know how to fight it but I would have given another tow company my money instead because they quoted me $75 flat fee but it seemed easier and comparable...Do I go through better business bureau? Plus they told me I was ignorant for thinking that they only charge $1 a mile they told me $5 and who did I talk to? Well that is what I want to know prove you said $5??? Thank you for your time and your web site is great for us optimists who wish the world was nice.

Answer
wow, it sounds as if there was a bit of miscommunication on the rates...  It happens a lot, and I know that a lot of times people hear only what they want to hear...  But that is not the case here...

It does seem that you kind of got the "bait and switch" done rate wise... Complaining, well that usually goes to the company owner, but it does not work very good most of the time, as they kind of had all the cards for this problem.

Better Business Bureau really does not have much power or teeth to solve this kind of problem, the best they can do is "write a bad report" for the company...

I just think that you are kind of out of luck on this one.  Sorry.
