Volvo Repair: removal of steering column, turbo volvo, volvo 240

Question
I have a gorgeous 1981 turbo volvo 240 that had the ignition switch removed/broken/tampered with, and i received the replacement switch with key and the entire steering column.  Good, well, how do you remove the steering wheel and column to put another one in.

Answer
JB, very carefully.  You dont need to take the column out.  You can do just the ignition switch assembly.  the easiest way to do this is to remove the instrument cluster and take the steering wheel off so you have more room.  Make sure to make a mark before you take the wheel off so you know where it goes back.  Believe it or not, the factory manual wants you to take the dash out when doing this.  I just cheat.  The one bolt that holds the assembly in will need to come out with a hammer and chisel.  Is this a rare 2 door car?  I can help you further if you want to tackle this job.  Roger
