Tips on Buying Cars: Family Van, toyota siena, mazda mpv

Question
I am looking to buy a mini-van (is that still the term they use?) for the family.  My order of  criteria are 1) economy (initial cost, maintenance, residual value), 2) mechanical reliability, 3) comfort.  The family consists of two parents and two kids (twins, 12 yrs old).  What would you suggest based on these factors?  Used is OK.  We have looked at the Toyota Siena and are very impressed, but the price is high for us.  That is where we are right now.  Any suggestions gratefully received.  –John White.

Answer
Hi John and thanks for the question.  You answered your own criteria when you looked at the Siena, in my opinion it is the best of the best.  The most popular mini-van has been Chrysler for many years but I have problems with their reliability and warranty problems.  If I were personally looking and used would be ok I would look at the Mazda MPV as new as I can afford.  This van has never been as popular as it should have been and consequently can be found at bargain prices.  If you have any further questions let me know.  Best of luck, Bud
