Auto Insurance Claims: stolen but key left inside, insurance company, insurance

Question
i lent a friend my son's vehicle and the next day the friend reported the vehicle stolen from outside his house.  'Friend' said the key was left in the car so it wouldn't be lost and he took the automatic locker with him. that doesn't make sence  to me but that's his story.  what are my options in recouping anything from the insurance company? can i hold the friend liabile for whatever insurance won't cover because he left the only key inside the vehicle?

Answer
Hi Blue,

Insurance should cover this situation. But you should tell your friend that if the insurance denies coverage you expect him to pay. Your friend should also at least be responsible for your deductible.

I hope this helps
