Car Stereos: Speaker swap on Lincoln Continental, factory amps, resistance ohms

Question
Hello, I am interested in putting an aftermarket component set speakers in my 1999 Lincoln Continental. I have the factory alpine system 6 disc cd. I would like to keep my factory head unit and amps. What is the resistance (ohms) on the factory amps? and can I change the factory subwoofer and power it from the stock amp?

Answer
The factory amps do not have resistance.  Rather, they handle specific resistance of speakers.  Generally, amps can handle 4 ohm or larger loads with no problem.  Less than 4 ohms may damage the amps.  The factory sub can be replaced with any sub, just be sure to keep the sub ohms over 4.  Hope this helps, Scott
