Car Stereos: 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, 2005 chevrolet malibu, chevrolet malibu

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu and I was playing my music while washing my car and decided to change the cd to a different one. When I pushed the eject button the cd would not come out completely. I had to use some tweezers to get it out. When I got it out I tried to put another cd in, however the cd player would not smoothly accept the cd. I had to push it in completely. Can you tell me what I need to do?

ANSWER: Rahsaan,  Unfortunately, mobile stereo cd players are not built very durably.  They are starting to make them alittle more durable these days, but the older models still break pretty easily.  When your one cd wouldn't come out of the player properly, that would be the first sign.  Then, using tools to get it out, and forcing in the next one, means there is definitely some bent parts and it will need to be rebuilt for about $150.  Most times, it is cheaper to buy another player.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: I've actually contacted my Chevrolet dealership, and they priced the new one at $500.00. That was a shocker!!!! Do you have any suggestions on who can rebuild them???

Answer
Well, I contacted my local dealer, and I got a surprise as well.  There are many different configurations available for that model and year.  It is amazing.  Even if I had figured out which cable was yours, I wouldn't know much about it.  I see the dilemma.  Unfortunately, I think the best idea would be to find a local garage that specializes in electrical troubleshooting.  It may take a few phone calls to locate the right shop, but they should be able to repair the cable cheaper than $500.  Probably closer to $200.  Hope this helps, Scott
