BMW Repair: 01 325i white smoke, losing coolant, coolant level

Question
Car has just started emitting a lot of white smoke. Coolant level is fine, no sign of coolant in oil. The car has 137,000 miles on it. I have only had it for 4 months and have driven it about 1500 miles. Could it be something besides a head gasket? There are not many repairs that I can't do, but pulling the head is would take a lot more time then I have.

Answer
Could be a couple of things other than head gasket, but not as nice.....cracked head, cracked block.  Not too likely though..

If it's white smoke, then it has to be coolant, and it should show up as losing coolant.  BMW's can be nasty to tell, with the way they need to be "burped", etc.

If you hold your hand in the exhaust and then smell it, does it smell like antifreeze?  it's possible it's just cold condensation (assuming you live someplace where it gets cold.)
