Audio Systems: Toshiba DVD Player, sony wega trinitron, toshiba dvd player

Question
We just bought a Toshiba DVD player DS-4100KU to replace our old one
which was about 8 years old. We used the same cables to hook up to our 10
year old Sony Wega Trinitron TV (which plays great i might add). We are
noticing color banding ocurring on all dvd's new ones and old ones, seems to
worse on the new ones. We have it hooked up going through our VCR do we
need to not go through the VCR and go straight to the TV? thanks for
helping.

Answer
The more electronics in the signal chain the greater the possibility of degradation. Since a VCR more than likely is hooked up to a TV signal then there also is the possibility of crosstalk from other electronics within the VCR. First thing to try is hook up the DVD directly to the Sony TV. For that test you should also completely disconnect the VCR from the Sony TV. You may discover that the interference that you see is generated by the VCR or TV signal. Each should be solely connected to the TV to see where the problem lies.
