Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Voyer 97 Turbo Diesel: air distribution door actuator, actuator, air distribution

Question
Ihave a problem with my ventilation. The blower motor is running OK, but if I switch to the position "panel" nothing happens, i.e. only a very small portion of the air is led up towards the panel. I hear something like an actuator but no idea where to find a baffle or an actuator to check.
thanks for your advice  christian/ austria

Answer
Hi Christian,
There is a mode door actuator on the left-hand end of the underdash housing. If you remove the panel that is under the steering column, and look to the right you should see two or three actuators (depending upon whether you have separate zones for the driver and passenger or not). The uppermost actuator at the rear corner of that side panel is the one that moves a door that directs the air. You could remove the screws that hold it in place, noting the position of the interface between the door and actuator key, and then try moving the door by hand to see if it is binding. If that seems ok then replacing the acturator may be the fix.
If the ABS control module (do you have ABS?) is blocking your view of the panel, then remove that for access.
