Mitsubishi Repair: AC/Heater 2002 Galant ES, vacuum leak, apperciated

Question
My daughter has a 2002 ES Galant.  The AC/Heater is stuck on AC.  I believe that the air deverter will only send air thru the AC.  Hot water is circulating thru the heater.  Last time heater was left in the heat position and when the AC was turned on and the temperature control was set to cold a clicking noise was heard and the AC worked.  When she tried to use heater it would not work.

I need to know how/what to remove to get to inside/under the dash where the divertef might be located.

Any help would be apperciated,

Answer
Jim: First off you need to go and buy yourself a repair manual from a parts store, they cost around $20.00 and are well worth the money. It would show you how to take the dash apart and how to fix this. If there is not a manual out for your car and sometimes they just don't carry for all models but still try. Then your library does carry repair manuals from Chilton, you could check there. I would also have your car checked for a vacuum leak, the newer cars some of controlling of things in the heater or AC is due to vacuum hoses. If you had a leak in any one of those hoses, it will keep vents from opening or closing right. So I would check for that too. Might have to get a shop to check for that vacuum leak as they can be hard to find at times. Hope this helps and good luck!
