Question
74 sportster at least thats the year its registered. it shifts on the wrong side right side. the the mainshaft outside oil seal and retainer failed and all the main shaft rollers came out and thats the problem.now i have it taken apart.and will have to replace the rollers seals and the mainshaft bearing races.i need to replace the bushing or raceway; whichever it is,that is built into the caseing.it is the race way that the roller bearingsride on.how do i get it out. what do i do with it .where can i get it.how can i be sure i am getting the exact replacement.and how do i re install it.plus any advise you might have concerning this problem

Answer
The race you are refering to is pressed or driven in. In order to press it out the motor would have to be out of the frame. Use a socket just a little smaller than the race and a extention and drive it out. to install the new one do the oppisit. Check with your local bike shop and they should be able to order the race and bearings for you.Harley used this race and bearing setup for quit a few years. You will have to mic the shaft, new bearings and race to make sure you have enough play in them. If not then your going to have to hone the race.
Good luck and happy riding
