Nissan Repair: 02 nissan altima speedometer, 2002 nissan altima, silicone lubricant

Question
Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2002 Nissan Altima Speedometer.  I replaced the sensor, but that did not fix it.  The speeometer needle is the only thing not working. the mileage and trip and all seem pretty accurate.  The speedometer will sit at 0 until I get up to around 60 then it goes up to around 100-120.  Any ideas on how to fix?

Answer
Hi Stephanie -

Usually this is the cable reather than the sensor. Have you checked that? It may be binding in the housing.

To get to it, you will have to remove the instrument panel. Right behind the speedometer you will find the cable housing, which will unsnap once you press the metal lever. Then you can pull the cable out, lubricate it, and return it in the housing. Graphite or silicone lubricant is best or any grease that does not leave residue or dry out.

Hope this helps -
